Abstract

Architectural design education has been considered as the major core in architectural education, today. The Author, who is an architectural design educator at the University of
Tehran, undertook a research in order to define the issues facing architectural design education in Iran, from 1997 to 2001. This paper reflects the results of the questionnaires which were given to some students and educators of Architecture in that research.
The results of the original research indicate that the major issues facing architectural design education in Iran are related to: 1- the student’s selection criteria; 2- the lack of teaching methodology in design studios; and 3- the dissatisfaction of students with the way their design educators assess their works. The findings of this research could assist both the educators and the educational planners of architectural design studios to reconsider some of their current educational strategies/programs in order to provide a more viable educational environment.
