Abstract

Renovation or “Marammat” has been a focal issue in our country since long ago. However, what we identify as renovation today is a European phenomenon shaped in the course of the past two centuries in Europe.
Renovation is a cultural matter. It is one of the purest and most humane fascinations to preserve the culture of the past. It serves for cultural relics what human rights serve for the individual.
In Farsi, renovation has been interpreted as repairing or correcting a building, and though the word is somewhat synonomous with repair, it is the spirit and not the literal meaning which implies respect for cultural heritage, preservation of historical relics, and safe-depositi’ng the past for the future. In short, it is a cultured treatment of cultural matters.
