Abstract

Glazed facades are in use since the «Modern Movement» of architecture. If proper shading devices are not considered for these type of facades, during hot and mild seasons, in case of solar radiation the inside temperature will rise rapidly, and the cooling load of the building will extremly exceeds.
During the cold periods, because of high thermal conductivity of the glazed facade, There will be too much heat loss to outside. In this paper themal behavior of a brick wall and two different glazed envelopes are compared, and the effects of each one on the inside temperature is studied. In addition with a data logger, thermal behavior of an existing double .. glazed facade and its impact on inside temperature have been examined. The results show that afazed facades are not at all suitable for sunny or cold
climates. If desiqners intend to use them, special construction details should be considered to save energy and maintain the rmof comfort conditions inside the rooms.
