Abstract

II nations always try to find their identity that A distinguishes them from the others. Art and architecture use this identity as its origins.
Tile emergence of Post-modern and Modern era converts the previously cherished values and principles, so the meaning of identity is changed. Traditional human believes that the world is a place between the beginning and eternity. A religious society knows its identity outside of itself, but a modern society creates the world as it wants, and the metaphysical believes was replaced by rationality.
This article tries to clarify the differences between the concept of identity in these two worldviews - traditional and modern. What we know, as in-identity in contemporary architect-ture¬
of Iran is a misunderstood in the pass from divine unique identity to human's plural identities.
The body of this article explains mannerism and the great gap in architecture, the meaning of identity and humanism, individual identity and the identity of a society, the architecture that is related to a place and architecture as architect's signature, innovation and creativity.
At the end, the article explains the role of archi¬tectural education to redefine the "lost identity". To find our new identity we should replace innate education instead of acquired education.
