Shadow pattern and its impacts on the neighboring property is one of the most important factors in site and community planning from energy conservation point of view.
Access to the winter sun and avoidance of the summer sun is greatly affected by many aspects of the site and should be considered in climatic design. Taking advantage of natural resources such as solar energy in buildings will not be possible unless an intelligent site planning takes place.
In this paper, calculating and drawing of the shadow pattern techniques of a single building in various latitude and also site planning guidelines are discussed.
