This article is due to find out if there is any difference (s) between environmental components in various societies/cultures. The paper is seeking for any answer for the big question of
“what has been the real meaning of shahr (city) in our culture and history according to the Persian language? This will be an introduction to another question as: Is there any difference (s) between the meaning of “city “among different societies and cultures? To approach this goal the meaning of the word “Shahr” is being searched ,basically in “Dehkhoda” Dictionary to find out its roots as well as its synonyms in Persian language. Meanwhile the writer tried to make some kind of interconnection between all these meanings and idioms. The basic idea for writing this article is to open new ways in which we can discover what our urban environments used to be, what they are and what they suppose to be in the future.

To sale building density as a source of income for Tehran Municipality became quite popular during the decade of nineties
This has various impact on quality of urban life. Increase of housing cost, environmental degradation and low standard of urban services, traffic problems, all are the result of such type of influences in Tehran.
Beside that, determining of F.A.R has not been followed as a scientific method and as a basis related to the available infrastructures.
In this paper, in addition to defining various residential densities, the existing density in Tehran and its role in traffic problems has been studied in Elahieh , Tehran. Finally a method for F.A.R. calculation has been proposed on the basis of available infrastructures specially with respect to the capacity and level of services (L.O.S) of the traffic network.
The result of the study shows that F.A.R has not been only used as a tool to create a balance between infrastructure and population but also creates a number of other problems.

Models are abstract perceptions adopted from common concepts of residents of spaces and environments. They appear through symbols, needs and norms. These models
make complexities of the environment understandable and create a tangible space. Therefore, without a clear perspective from their concepts and perceptions, it is impossible to have clear behavioral and normative models. In other words, models express the ideas and aspirations of the people. Aspirations that have arisen from the internal inclinations and personal beliefs and could be observed tangibly. Neighborhood, its structure, texture, formation
and transformation is one of these models. The need to conceive the concept of space, cultural, historical and local characteristics on the one hand, and the criteria for identifying the elements of the neighborhood structure on the other, would pave the way for creating subjective models to study the elements of the neighborhood structure. This would pave the way for syntax and linguistic criteria on neighborhood structure and make their application a reality.

The absence of a comprehensive plan for preservation of the seashore and consequently, unsuitable and unplanned land use of that zone, non-utilization of the rules and regulations of the city detailed plans, construction of single detached housing units and villas alongside the beautiful and attractive shoreline of the Caspian Sea instead of constructing leisure complexes for the public uses, have resulted in the destruction of the said shoreline since the 1950s.
In this article sustainable development policies and measures for the preservation of the seashore lines have been surveyed and considering the local problems and limitations, a battery of measures have been proposed for the long term development of the Caspian Sea shoreline

The “Urban Functions in Rural Development”-UFRD, was introduced by Dennis Rondinelli as an approach to add the spatial and location dimensions to current regional planning practices. One
of the principles of the UFRD is to apply simple methods and techniques in the analysis part of this approach. In this article methods proposed for analyzing settlements system and also clustering the settlements are evaluated through a case study of rural settlements in the Golestan Province. The study shows that the manual scalogram , because of its serious limitations in considering the qualitative as well quantitative aspects of functions present in settlements and also the rich data available in the area is not an appropriate method to follow. The centrality index method was applied and yielded a very satisfactory result. For hierarchical clustering of the settlements, UFRD does not propose a specific method, but in several projects the clustering method proposed by John Marshall has been applied. The study used the techniques proposed by John Marshall, but only in one out of six Townships it yielded satisfactory result. The method proposed by Richard Preston was also tried. Although this method yielded satisfactory results, but has serious limitations. For hierarchical clustering of settlements, the study proposes a simple method, using column chart to cluster settlements based on their centrality index. The proposed method is much simpler to undertake and does not have the limitations of the Preston method.

The critical inquiry and examination aimed at the underestanding and critical interpretation of Iranian theatre
activities, developments and phenomenaon have provided resources to expose and promote the formulation
of nine forms(categories) of Iranian theatre by the author. The proposed Iranian theatre forms art given below:
1) THE RITUALISTIC PERFORMANCES (EXAMPLE: THE SHAMANISTIC RITUALS OF ZAR STILL PERFORMED IN SOME SOUTHERN SECTIONS OF IRAN)
2) THE PROCESSIONAL PERFORMANCES (EXAMPLE: MUHARRAM MOURNING PROCESSIONS).
3) STREET AND OUTDOOR PERFORMANCES (EXAMPLE: MA’REKE GIRL SHOWS OF MOUNTEBANK).
4) DRAMATIC STORYTELLING (EXAMPLE: SHAMAYEL GARDANI: EXHIBITION OF HOLY ICONS AND PICTURES).
5) THE PUPPET THEATRE (EXAMPLE: KHEYMEH SHABBAZI: TRADITIONAL IRANIAN MARRIONETTE THRATRE).
6) THE TRADITIONAL FARCICAL PLAY-TAQLID OR RUHOZI (EXAMPLE: SIYAH BAZI: THE PLAY OF THE BLACK-MAN).
7) THE PASSION PLAY-TH’ZIYELI (EXAMPLE: THE COMMUNAL DRAMA OF TA’ZIYEH; COMMEMORATING THE MARTYRDOM OF IMAM HUSSEIN).
8) WESTERN INFLUENCED THEATRE (EXAMPLE: PLAYS TRANSLATED FROM EUROPEAN LANGUUAGS INTO FARSI AND PERFOMED BASED ON WESTERN THEATRE AESTHTICS AND STAGING DEVICES AND TECHNICUES).
9) THE ECLECTIC THEATRE (EXAMPLE: PLAYS OR PERFORMANCES MADE FROM THE ELEMENTS OF THE AFOREMENTIONED FORMS, SPECIALLY COMBINIG THE ELEMENTS OF IRANIAN TRADITIONAL FORMS WITH THOSE OF THE WESTERN THEATRE FORMS, THEREBY CREATING AN ECLECTIC THEATRE FORM).
The present research has probed into and shed light on the third category, or form of Iranian theatre, coined “THE
PROCESSIONAL PERFORMANCES”.
This theoretical quest has proponded that the Iranian processional performances can further be devided into three
discreet subdivisions:
(1) FESTIVE/MERRYING/PROCESSIONAL PERFORMANCES EXEMPLIFIED IN GROTESQUE DRAMATIC PROCESSION OF BARNESHASTAN-E KUSEH (THE RIDE OF BEARDLESS MAN).
(2) MOURNING/LAMENTING/PROCESSIONAL PERFORMANCES ILLUSTRATED IN COMMUNAL MOURNING PROCESSIONAL PERFORMANCES OF MUHARRAM FOR THE MARTYRDOM OF IMAM HUSSEIN.
(3) SUPPLICATORY PROCESSIONAL PERFORMANCES SYMBOLIZED IN IRAN INVOCATIONAL STYLISTIC MOVEMENTS.
In order to gain a broader prespective and insight into ISranian processional performances most notably Iranian merrying processional performances, MICHAIL BAKHTIN’S (1895-1975) workes have been founed as a valuable supplementary resource.
The current findings have pointed out that much of THE MERRYING OR FESTIVE IRANIAN PROCESSIONAL PERFORMANCES has faded a way with time; but, THE IRANIAN LAMENTING OR MOURNING PROCESSIONAL PERFORMANCES have flourished and are annually celebrated with vigor. IRANIAN SUPPLICATORY PROCESSIONAL PERFORMANCES have lost its considerable theatrical aspects in recent times, given way to a different form of praying for divine sympathetic appeal.

Ancient Iranian music dates back to a long time ago. The study of documents suggests a high position for music in ancient Iran. From among different kinds of music, the
religious one enjoys especial status. This article attempts to study and analyze the religious aspect of music in ancient Iran as well as its position. To this end, the related literature and remains obtained through archaeological explorations have been scrutinized. The evidence indicates that music has played a great functional role in rendering religious ceremonies in Iran. In fact, the religious ceremonies were expressed through music and this was sometimes the only language to worship. Music and religious beliefs have always had close relationships in Iran, correlative with each other and complimenting one another. Music has helped express the presence of man in perceiving the world. It has also given a sense to this perception. This kind of music has strong bases placed in people’s beliefs, having its roots deep in their souls. This kind of music has managed to survive through different ages, consolidating the foundations of Iranian music. Thus, the wealth and elevation of Iranian music deserves further study and reflection.

A method for referential identification and indexing of pictorial sources containing musical instruments has been outlined: The method, which is based upon the date of origin of the source, has been used on a developing basis during the past three years. The Index, acting as a “pictorial reference”, should play a significant role in overcoming the obstacles, past and present, that have impeded musical research. The structure of the method is also such that it can easily be adopted in other fields of research.
